Two political experts in South Florida say that while it is too soon to know how the FBI search of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence will affect the political arena, there is no doubt there will be a ripple from it.

James Todd is an associate professor of politics at Palm Beach Atlantic University who believes the FBI search could impact voters from both sides of the aisle.

FBI’s search of Trump’s Florida estate: Why now?

"I think Trump will be even more active perhaps on behalf of Republican candidates in the midterm elections. It seems as though candidates that either support or Trump has supported are lining up to comment about what happened yesterday," Todd said.

Florida Atlantic University Political Science Professor Kevin Wagner also said that fundamentally, the actions are lawful.

"Supporters of the president, as you can already see on social media, are very energized and engaged to what they think was inappropriate behavior by law enforcement," Wagner said. He went on to say, "there’s no reason that a president wouldn’t be subject to the law, there’s no person above the law."

And as comparisons to Watergate grow, Todd said this incident is vastly different.

"In Watergate, the target of the raid was the Democratic Party," he said.

Both professors agree this search will undoubtedly change the political landscape, but it is just too soon to know how much and for how long.
