Custom injection molder GemTech LLC of Olathe, Kan., is breaking ground on a larger plant in nearby Spring Hill, Kan.

The company has outgrown its 25,000-square-foot site. By this time next year, GemTech expects to be moving into a 41,250-square-foot facility with space for a clean room. The new site sits on 6 acres of land that would, if needed, allow for a second, 45,000-square-foot facility, said customer relations manager Ashley Deknes.

GemTech employs 65 and plans to expand its staff to 100 in three to five years. Likewise, it will add equipment as necessary, growing from the current stable of about 14 presses with clamping forces of 55 to 500 tons.

GemTech injection molds components for the medical/pharmaceutical, aerospace/aviation, electronics, transportation and consumer products markets. Deknes said by phone that the company's growth hasn't come from any one market, but rather from new customers gained by word of mouth.

The company also offers mold making, design and maintenance; and secondary services including packaging, pad printing, assembly, ultrasonic welding, drilling and hot stamping.
